In 2019, the United Methodist Women is celebrating 150 years – and counting!
A birthday celebration was held on March 23, 2019, 150 years to the day from the first meeting of the "handful of women" who would form the Woman's Foreign Missionary Society of the Methodist Episcopal Church.
About 140 United Methodist Women and supporters came from 16 U.S. states and Brazil to Boston University School of Theology for a day-long celebration of the UMW's history. Another 100 or so watched the event via livestream. The gathering raised $10,724.21 for the UMW Legacy Fund.
The event was hosted by the New England Conference UMW, the Conference Commission on Archives & History and BU School of Theology.
