The Rev. Robert E. Sammons, 87, of Back Shore Lane, died Saturday, Jan. 18, 2014.

He was born in Brockton, Mass., April 11, 1926, the son of E. Thomas and Elizabeth Anderson Sammons.
He graduated from Brockton High School in 1944 and entered the Army Air Corp, serving in the U.S. on B-29's. He studied at Oklahoma University for 3 years and became an industrial engineer working at several companies. Sensing a call to ministry, he completed a B.A. in English at Bridgewater State College. He received his M.Dn. degree at Andover Newton Theological School. 
He married Margaret Steen Allyn, Feb. 3, 1973 in Brockton, Mass.
Rev. Sammons became a Methodist minister and served at Peoples Methodist Church in Union 7 years, retiring to the family home on Orr's Island in 1992. He was interim associate pastor for a year at the Brunswick United Methodist Church and several years more at the Phippsburg Congregational Church and the Popham Chapel.
He was predeceased by two sons, Douglas Sammons and Donald Sammons. Rev. Sammons is survived by his wife of Orr's Island; a daughter Carole A. Julius of East Bridgewater, Mass.; and a granddaughter, Hannah Julius.

A memorial gathering will be held at noon, Saturday, Jan. 25th at the Old Orr's Island School House, Rt. 24 with Pastor Karen Pierce and the Rev. Michael Laidlaw officiating.
