Of Plymouth, age 87, September 29 at South Shore after two strokes. A minister of The United Methodist Church, he served in churches in East Glastonbury and Uncasville, CT, Mathewson Street UMC, Providence, RI, UMC in Plymouth, and East Weymouth, MA, UMC in Avon, Niagara Falls, and Lancaster, NY. While in Avon he spent a year in an exchange ministry in Midlands England. Rev. Shippee leaves his loving wife Ruth Betty (Hutchinson) Shippee of Plymouth, their children Carol Manuel of Rochester, NY, Laurie Greenberg of Fayetteville, NY, Elizabeth Shippee of Plymouth, MA, Mary Mack of Phoenix, AR, Robert Charles Shippee of Richmond, VA, and Martha Melody Cousins of Avon NY. He also leaves 11 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, one granddaughter, Bonnie Greenberg, predeceased him in 2005. Rev. Shippee retired to Plymouth in 1986, "The Plymouth Retirement Home," Hawthorne Hill Bed and Breakfast, was a second ministry for 10 years. He was a member of the Plymouth Rotary Club where he was the liaison for the club to the Boy Scout Troop 1620, he was named a Paul Harris Fellow, named after the founder of Rotary. Rev. Shippee served in the U.S. Army 3196th Signal Corps. During WWII. He was born in Putnam CT, graduating from the University of CT, and Yale Divinity School in 1955 with a Masters in Divinity. Some of the destinations he loved to travel were England, Scotland, China, Hungary, Switzerland, Germany and France. A celebration of his life service will be held Sunday October 10th 2010 at 5:00 PM in The United Methodist Church, 29, Carver Rd., Plymouth, MA. Followed by food and fellowship in the Parish Hall.
