The Rev. James E. Herrick, 102, of Bailey Island, Maine, died Monday, July 9, 2007. He was born in Camden on Dec. 30, 1904, the son of William E. and Alice Russell Herrick. As a young boy, he was carried on board the first steam vessel to enter Camden Harbor. He attended Bangor Theological School, The University of Maine and Bates and Bowdoin colleges. In his early years, he was a pastor in New Harbor, Wayne and Orr's and Bailey Island Methodist Churches. Since retirement he has officiated at many local churches. He performed Easter Sunrise Services on Bailey Island for many years. He was predeceased by his wife, Antoinette Herrick; a son, John Russell Herrick; and a second wife, Mary E. (Frey) Herrick. Surviving are a son, James E. Herrick Jr. of Arlington, Texas; two daughters, Helen Johnson of Cundy's Harbor and Alice Jewell of Woolwich and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 10 AM on Aug. 25 at the Brackett Funeral Home, 29 Federal St., Brunswick. Memorial donations can be made to the Orr's and Bailey Island Fire and Rescue, P.O.
