Preparing for possible post-Ida flooding, damage

September 01, 2021

Once again, New England may be in the path of a significant weather event. The remnants of Hurricane Ida are expected to drop heavy rain across parts of the Mid-Atlantic and southern New England with life-threatening flash flooding possible in much of these areas. More information can be found at the National Hurricane Center website as well as on national and local news outlets.

In preparation, Bishop Sudarshana Devadhar has asked Pastor David Arruda to continue to serve as our temporary emergency coordinator. Pastor Arruda can be reached via cellphone at 508-207-3117.

Bishop Devadhar expressed his gratitude to Pastor Arruda for agreeing to continue in this important role as areas prepare for a possible weather emergency.

If your church or parsonage experiences damage, contact Pastor Arruda and your District Superintendent. Note: The Seacoast and Commonwealth West districts are being covered by Commonwealth East District Superintendent We Chang, who can be reached via the district office at 781-861-0249.

If your church has Relief Supply Kits (Cleaning Buckets, Health Kits) available and you have not already informed him, please contact Pastor Arruda at pastordavidarruda@verizon.net with your church name and location and the number of kits available.

Pastor Arruda has suggested that each church create and store six Cleaning Buckets and 12 Health Kits to have on hand at all times. UMCOR provides guidelines on how to assemble the kits and a list of contents for each.
