In 1969 the UMW group at what was then Mittineague United Methodist Church (now West Springfield UMC) set forth a mission to follow that Gospel order as a mission of outreach in the community by starting the Mittineague Methodist Community Preschool in West Springfield, Massachusetts. Over the years the school has served over 2,500 young children, preparing them for school through an effective program focused on care, love, learning, and compassion and directed by highly trained professional educators and volunteers. Those children are now grown and their children continue to attend.
On April 24th West Springfield United Methodist Church will host a celebration of the 50th anniversary of its mission to provide an affordable, high quality preschool for the children of West Springfield. We gather in the tradition of the preschool that evening offering a fun filled family event with places where children and their family can explore the arts. There will be budding artist areas, a performance by a mime, and the Springfield Symphony Art Zoo will be there to let the children explore the sounds and wonders of music.
There will also be a short ceremony to honor those brilliant volunteers that had the bold foresight to dare to build the school and the pastors, teachers, and others who have worked so hard to continue to make it a success. All are welcome to attend this celebration with a special invitation to alumni, former members of the church, past pastors, and teachers!
The event runs from 5:30 to 7:30, light snarks will be available. Located at West Springfield UMC, 800 Amostown Rd., West Springfield, MA.
