Join mission trip to Guatemala

March 28, 2017

Rev. David Glusker, retired elder in the New England Conference, shares the following about a nine-day mission opportunity in Guatemala.

Salud y Paz is a ministry of healthcare and education in the mountains of Guatemala. Several groups of United Methodists from New England have been going to assist this ministry during recent years.

Having spent a month in Guatemala for each of the past five years, and having brought small “mission teams” for a nine-day experience during the past two years, I am delighted to offer an invitation to other members of the Conference to participate in our third mission trip to Guatemala.

The trip will begin on Oct. 7, 2017, when the group will fly out from Boston to work with the staff of Salud y Paz mission doing what needs to be done for the Mayan people in the mountain area of Guatemala.

Participation in a mission trip brings new life and meaning to the faith journey of many Christians each year. Emil Brunner said, "The church exists by mission as fire exists by burning." When church members experience mission, their faith comes alive. It is also one of the most fulfilling experiences of a lifetime.

Everyone has something to offer. You do not need to be a skilled craftsmen to make a difference.

The cost of the trip will be $1,500 to $2,000. That includes travel, hotels in Guatemala, almost all meals, a staff member "shepherding" us, and a contribution to the mission.

Five of people are already committed to go this year; we can accommodate up to 20 (although 15 might be a better number).

We would like to buy plane tickets early to get the best prices. Please let me know ASAP if you or any of your members are considering joining us.
