November 03, 2020
Beginning at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2020: After each scripture reading, you are invited to light a candle. You will need five. We will have several moments of silence following the reading of each scripture and then a vocal prayer.
You can participate on your own or join a WebEx with Katahdin DS Jackie Brannen at https://neumc.webex.com/meet/jbrannenPraise be to the name of God for ever and ever; wisdom and power are his. He changes times and seasons; he deposes kings and raises up others. He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the discerning. (Daniel 2:20-21)
Lord who is above all, we acknowledge that you are the font of all wisdom and discernment. We come to you this day to offer you our hearts and our minds as we pray for our nation. Shed your light and love on this election process. Let it be peaceful and may the results honor you and your will for our country.
The LORD has established his throne in heaven, and his kingdom rules over all. (Psalm 103:19)
Lord of Heaven and Earth, It is you who rules over all that was, all that is and all that is to come. May this election bring us closer to you and to each other and may we learn to serve you all the days of our lives.
Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. (Romans 13:1)
Lord of Justice, give our nation a heart to accept whomever you place into authority. Give this nation a unity that can only come from you. Establish in each of us a heart that is filled with your love and your compassion. Help us all to work with our governing officials to serve you and each other.
I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people – for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. For there is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all people. (1 Timothy 2:1-6
Lord of Love, give us all a practice of praying, and interceding for our elected officials, whomever, they may be. Let our prayers lift up our leaders and assist them in living lives that are peaceful, good and holy so they may govern our nation with compassion and wisdom. We pray this in the name of Christ who is our mediator.
Remind the people to be subject to rulers and authorities, to be obedient, to be ready to do whatever is good, to slander no one, to be peaceable and considerate, and always to be gentle toward everyone. (Titus 3:1-2)
As the election results trickle in, Lord, help us all to accept whatever you have provided us. Help us to rally together as a nation to support each other, to bring justice to all, to care for the least of us and to be beacons of light in our troubled world.
