Here is the schedule for the Empire Grove Camp Meeting Association Summer Vesper services for 2023. Services begin at 
7 pm.

 
May 28, 2023 Rev. Annie Baker-Streevy 
Annie will start this exciting 2023 summer Vespers series. Rev. Annie Baker-Streevy (she/her) is an ordained Elder in the United Methodist Church and is currently serving the congregation of St. James UMC in Merrimack, NH. She previously served Calvary UMC in Lewiston, ME from 2015-2022 and in a Cooperative Parish with Bolsters Mills UMC from 2019-2022. A native New Englander, Rev. Baker-Streevy has a passion for building relationships while meeting people where they are, seeking God in nature, and going on fun adventures. She lives with her spouse, Rev. John Baker-Streevy (they/them), their 3.5 year old son, Finn, and their 8 year old smooth-coated collie mix, Thor (Dog of Thunder). 
 
June 4, 2023  Pastor Lynn Briggs
Pastor Lynn Briggs is a licensed local pastor appointed to two rural Maine Churches.  She serves Buxton United Methodist Church in Buxton, Maine as well as West Baldwin United Methodist Church in -- you guessed it -- West Baldwin, Maine.   Pastor Lynn also serves on the Many Waters District Committee and has recently begun teaching for the Certified Lay Minister (CLM) program.    She has a great appreciation for the Christian Liturgical Year with its seasons and colors and looks forward to leading worship with the help of CLM students.  Our theme will be FISHING!
 
June 11, 2023  Brother Matthias
Br. Matthias Tanner is a retired pastor from the Upper New York Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church, and a life-vowed member of The Order of Saint Luke.  He and his wife Carolyn live year-round at Empire Grove.
 
June 18, 2023   A-J Alexander, CLM
A-J (Anna-Jean) Alexander is a Certified Lay Minister (CLM) with the United Methodist Church. She is a member of the Bolsters Mills United Methodist Church. A-J’s CLM assignment is to BMUMC Worship Leadership as well as Director of the Table Ministries located in the Oxford Hills Area. She serves on the District Lay Servant Committee as well as the District Congregational Development Committee. She is a member of Empire Grove where she owns a summer cottage. She is married to Wayne Alexander together they raised 5 children and enjoy their 6 grandchildren. A-J enjoys being with her family, preaching, kayaking, hiking, photography, mission work in Mexico and spending time at their summer places. The couple are the Empire Grove Assistant Camp Directors for 2023
 
June 25, 2023   Tony Landsperg
Tony is Laity and Music Director at Bolsters Mills UMC and a member of the United Methodist Church since 2001. He has have taught Sunday school, led worship music ministry (both inside and outside church), and over the last few years leading worship service and delivering message. He works as an IT Security Director at Unum
He has been married to Pastor Bo Landsperg for 32 years, daughter Hope is graduating from USM with a political science degree
 
July 2, 2023    Rev. Steve Bascum
Rev. Stephen Bascom, Sr., MDiv, MRE, is pastor of the United Methodist Church of Auburn, and coordinating pastor of Calvary United Methodist Church and City Mission of Lewiston. Having served a dozen New England churches in 33 years with the Connection, he encourages spiritual healing, nourishment and renewal through authentic sharing of faith journey and story. Steve and his wife, Jude, are parents to three, with families of their own, including grandchildren Jonah and Marin.
 
July 9, 2023    Oxford Mission (Howie Munday)
Howie has been a member of Oxford Advent Christian Church for 40 years: 20 as elder, ten of which as chair. He has held most positions in church over that time. He speaks every third Sunday night. He has led many Mission trips: 11 to Mexico with OACC, 2 with Samaritan's Purse (1 to Alaska and one to Long Island - Hurricane Sandy). He proclaims to be “just a sinner saved by the amazing grace of God !!!”
 
July 16, 2023  Don Mayberry
Rev. Don Mayberry is currently the minister at East Otisfield Free Baptist Church and he will be joined by Judy Mayberry to lead the vesper service July 16th. Don has served the community as a pastor for more than 25 years, The Mayberrys write and perform their own music and lead workshops and retreats that encourage hope through story and song. From churches to coffeehouses, The Mayberrys music naturally speaks to faith, social justice, grace, and compassion, telling the story from a nuanced spiritual perspective. 
 
July 23, 2023   Rich Hughen, CLM           
CLM (Rich Hughen) Rich Hughen is a Certified Lay Minister that serves as the New England Conference Lay Leader, the New England United Methodist Men’s Prayer Advocate, and is a member of Thornton Heights UMC in South Portland.  He is the Coordinator of the Moving Team for Greater Portland Family Promise whose mission is to help families experiencing homelessness and low-income families achieve sustainable independence through a community-based response.   
 
July 30, 2023  Rev. Joel Guillemette
Rev. Guillemette will kick off the beginning of the 2023 Empire Grove Camp Meeting week with his inspiring Vespers Service. Camp meeting week runs July 30th  through August 6th. Camp week is open to the public.
 
August 6, 2023   Mitch Thomas
Mitchell Clyde Thomas has been an Empire Grove member since 1984. A frequent leader of Song Service, Mitch has been Co-Program Director twice over the years. A former Board member, he served many years on the nominating committee. He directed Music-Theatre camps at Mechuwana for more than 30 years and directed children's choirs at the Auburn UMC for 18 years. For 11 years he was choir director and pianist at Calvary UMC in Lewiston and served as New England Conference Music Director for 9 year. Currently, Mitch is the pianist/organist at a small church in Scarborough. He is a composer of several musicals for kids and has written and co-written dozens of songs
 
August 13, 2023  Russ Peppe
Russ Peppe is an Ordained Elder (retired) of the United Methodist Church, a member of the New England Annual Conference, and has served congregations in Cape Porpoise, Gorham, Auburn, Bangor, New Sharon, Farmington, and Bath. He is now living in Lewiston where he is close to his three children, seven grandchildren, and one great grandchild. His primary interests are reading, hiking, camping, and analog photography
 
August 20, 2023  Pastor Bo Jackson Landserg
Bo (Robena) Jackson Landsperg is a Licensed Local Pastor in the United Methodist Church. With a BA in English from Mount Holyoke College and an MA in English from the University of Maine, she has been in pastoral ministry since 2010 (placed as a declared candidate in 2 interim churches). Bo now serves Bolsters Mills UMC in Harrison, ME and UMC of Minot in Minot, ME. Other interests include writing fiction, reading, good sci-fi, walking in nature, photography, and crafting jewelry. Bo’s calling is to share the good news that when the world breaks you, God heals you; when the world rejects you; God chooses you; and when the world sees you only on the surface, God sees your heart and calls you my child.
 
August 27, 2023                              Joan Spitzform
Joan has been a Lay Speaker since 1994 and has led worship in several churches in
New Jersey and here in Maine. She  has also served my home church, Minot UMC as
both worship leader, and is the current Lay Leader. She served as Worship Leader
from 2012 – 2015 at Bolsters Mills UMC. Joan is also a former employee and a
bereavement volunteer as well as a grief group facilitator for Androscoggin Home
Health and Hospice.
 
September 3, 2023             Catherine & Raymond Anderson
Revs. Raymond and Catherine Anderson are retired United Methodist clergy who made Empire Grove their home in 2021. Raymond served several local United Methodist churches in Maine before becoming a staff chaplain at the New England Deaconess Hospital from 1976-1988. In 1988 he served as Director of Pastoral Care at Maine General Medical Center until retiring in 2008. Cathy served local churches in Livermore, North Turner, and Readfield Maine from 1987-1999 before joining the staff at the Preachers’ Aid Society where she served as Director of Clergy Family Services and Director of Pastoral Care Ministries before retiring in 2020.
  They have four adult children, four grandsons, and enjoy long walks, camping in their RV, and being a part of the Empire Grove Community where Raymond serves as President of the Board and both Cathy and Raymond are Program Directors for this year’s Camp Meeting.
