Covenant Hills to be open for retreats

April 20, 2016

A message from Vermont District Superintendent Brigid Farrell:

Would you like to have a place to bring your Confirmation Class for an overnight?
Do you have a family group that would like a reasonably priced place to hold a weekend retreat?
Come swim, hike, canoe and sit around the campfire at Covenant Hills this summer.

The Vermont Task Force on Camping/Retreat and Outdoor Ministries has worked with the Conference Trustees and the Covenant Hills Board/Site Committee to recommend that the site be open for retreats and other events during the summer 2016 season. There will be no programming available, but churches and other groups may rent the facilities, including Faith Lodge, Taylor’s Barn, and any number of cabins for their retreat needs. If you would like more information please contact John Schuyler at Johnhschuyler@aol.com.

Work Day May 21

In order to be ready there is the work to be done of opening the camp for the season. Opening day, a day of work and fellowship, will take place on Saturday, May 21, 2016. There will be lots of work to do, everything from cleaning cabins to setting up the waterfront. Come, join in the work. Bring a friend and your tools. Hopefully the weather will be a picture-perfect May day in the beautiful hills of Vermont. If you plan on coming, please let Sheri Smith (sherismith27@gmail.com), Jeremiah Schuyler (jeremiahcovenanthills@gmail.com) or John Schuyler know.

Suggestions for the future

The Vermont Task Force has been brainstorming about recommendations for the future of Covenant Hills. Could it be a Center of Mission and Ministry for the district and the conference? Could it become a self-sustaining site blending the sacredness of the site with sustainable agriculture, medicinal gardens, camping and retreats? We are open to any and all ideas. Please help us dream. We will be bringing a preliminary report to Annual Conference in June, so please send any thoughts to Rev. Farrell at vmtds@neumc.org

Please keep this season and the on-going plans in your prayers.
