Bone Builders & Abundant Health at St. Paul's UMC

UMC Abundant Health

September 18, 2018

St. Paul’s UMC in St. Albans, Vermont, is starting a new exercise class in October. The church wants to help bring Abundant Health to church and community members and the RSVP Bone Builders Class is a good fit.

Classes will take place at St. Paul’s UMC on Monday and Thursday from 10:30 to 11:30 am in the Fellowship Hall, beginning Monday, October 1, 2018.
(11 Church Street, St Albans  VT. There is a handicap ramp located at the top of the parking lot.)

Here is the background on the way Bone Builders came to St. Paul's:

Earlier this summer when Debbie LeBlanc signed St. Paul’s up with Abundant Health for sponsoring a HulaPalooza, she noticed that they were encouraging churches to find new ways to bring Abundant Health to their communities.

Debbie, a member of St. Paul’s, has osteopenia (her bones are weaker than they should be but not enough to be diagnosed with osteoporosis). She had heard about Bone Builders and knew she would benefit from the classes, which also made her think of her friend Lori who was recently diagnosed with osteoporosis. Now Debbie is becoming a RSVP Volunteer and Bone Builders Instructor. She and Lori will eventually lead the new class at St. Paul's.

 A perfect match:

Debbie learned about Bone Builders from another friend, Mary Pelkey. Mary is the coordinator for RSVP (Retired and Senior Volunteer Program) and the Foster Grandparent Program for Franklin and Grand Isle Counties, and just happens to rent office space at St. Paul’s for these programs.

Mary is a certified Bone Builder Instructor and will lead the class until her new volunteers receive official Bone Builder Training.

Debbie and Lori are excited about becoming instructors for Bone Builders for their own health, and for the health of members of the St. Paul’s congregation and the community at large.
