Calling, discerning, electing and consecrating a bishop is an act of the whole church!
God's call to serve as a bishop can be heard and discerned in many ways. Sometimes most clearly in the affirmation and nudge from others. Therefore, you are invited to discern those called to serve as bishops.
Any Elder who meets the requirements of the Discipline is eligible to be a candidate for the episcopacy. Read what
The Book of Discipline of The United Methodist Church has to say about the role of bishops
here.
For those interested in this process, the 18 members of
2016 General and Jurisdictional Conference delegation will provide an interview opportunity, which allows practice and feedback to anyone seriously considering a calling to the role of bishop.
To begin this process, the delegation is seeking to identify potential episcopal nominees through the input of New England laity and clergy. Nominations may come from individuals within the Conference, groups of individuals, or organizations and caucuses. A person may also recommend him or herself as a candidate.
Those who wish to lift up an Elder/s for consideration are asked to submit up to three names to the delegations by clicking
here.
The deadline to submit names is Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2015.
