LAY EQUALIZATION MEMBERS The 2018 New England Annual Conference is scheduled for Thursday, June 14, 2018 through Saturday, June 16, 2018 at the Radisson Conference Center in Manchester, NH.
The Mid Maine District may elect more than 30 lay equalization members, and we are looking for suggestions or self-nominations. Laity Clergy Lay equalization members have full voice and vote at Annual Conference. They are called lay “equalization” members because they balance (equalize) the number of clergy members of conference. Lay equalization members of Annual Conference must have been members of the United Methodist Church for the 2 years preceding their election and have been active in the UMC for the preceding 4 years.
By Discipline, we are to include at least one young person between the ages of 12 and 17, at least one young person between the ages of 18 and 30, and by the New England Conference procedures we need 2 more under the age of 30. We’d love to send more than 4 young people, though! Lay equalization members are responsible for the cost of attending the Annual Conference. There is some scholarship funding available through the MME District Office, but it must be requested before you register.
Speak with someone from your church who has attended annual conference (your Lay Member or pastor, for example) to find out what goes on at annual conference. If you have someone to suggest or if you would like to nominate yourself, please contact the MME District Office at email@example.com
