2015 Together for Tomorrow and Urban Ministry grants awarded

This year the Office of Congregational Development is excited to announce the 2015 recipients of the Together for Tomorrow (TFT) and Urban Ministry grants.
 
In 2015, a total of $17,500 is being awarded through Together for Tomorrow; the churches receiving grants are:
  • Faith UMC in Columbia, ME ($3,500) This grant will allow Faith UMC to expand its audio-visual ministry to include recording and live streaming, allowing them to connect with shut-ins and with members who travel.
  • Simple Church in Grafton, MA ($4,000) This grant will allow Simple UMC to hire an intern to work with the staff, expanding their reach, as well as providing a seminary student with church planting experience.
  • John Wesley UMC in Falmouth, MA ($5,000) This grant will, in part, allow John Wesley UMC to expand its music and performing arts ministry, specifically to improve lighting, sound and staging.  
  • Wesley UMC in Medford, MA ($5,000) This grant will allow Wesley UMC to expand its International Student Ministry, providing materials and resources as the church reaches an ever growing population of youth and young adults in the area who come from around the world.
In 2015, a total of $30,000 ($10,000 each) is being awarded in Urban Ministry grants to the following churches:
  • Bethany First UMC in Roslindale, MA This will, in part, allow Bethany First to expand it youth ministry, as well as its Blessing Station Ministry as it touches the lives of commuters at the bus station.
  • Connexion UMC in Somerville, MA This will, in part, allow Connexion to continue to expand its Children Defense Fund Freedom School, now located in both Somerville and Chelsea.
  • Harvard-Epworth UMC in Cambridge, MA This grant will, in part, provide start-up funding Harvard-Epworth UMC to seed its youth and young adult ministry as they seek to engage, equip and send youth and adults into ministry with each other.
These one-time grants are made to allow churches to develop new initiatives or expand current ministries in order to help them fulfill the mission of making disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.
