An Introduction to Lay Ministry: the BASIC Course, will be offered at St. James UMC in Proctorsville, VT, starting on Sunday, October 17, 2021, at 12:30. This class will be taught by Pastor John Hawkins and will go for 5 weeks. Participants are responsible for buying their own book, Basic Course Participant’s Book, and registration (see Request & Recommendation Form below).
The BASIC course is an introductory course designed to equip new leaders and renew current leaders. This course covers the three main categories of Lay Servant Ministries: Leading, Caring, and Communicating. Its purpose is to equip us to be better church leaders - it is not a preaching course.
This is a refresher course for lay servants and a first course for anyone interested in becoming a Certified Lay Servant. To get credit as a Certified Lay Servant you must have completed the Basic course.
Beginning Wednesday, September 29, 2021, at 6:30 p.m., Rev Greg Smith will facilitate the advanced course on Life Together in the United Methodist Connection (United Methodist Polity). This course gives participants an overview of the structure and organization of The United Methodist Church. The first meeting is in person at the Shelburne UMC. This is a 5-week class, and space is limited to 15 people. Participants are responsible for buying their own book, Polity, Practice, and the Mission of the UMC, and registration (see Request & Recommendation Form below).
