 RISEM District Basic Course Registration

This course is foundational for all courses in Lay Servant Ministries. Participants are encouraged to discover and employ personal spiritual gifts as God intended and to consider the importance of exercising servant leadership, developing future leaders, remaining rooted in consistent spiritual practices, and being part of a group that   hold members accountable in their discipleship.

This course is designed to provide and strengthen disciples and lay leadership in the local church.

This course is not specifically designed to prepare you to preach.

Those who have gifts for preaching may take the advanced course on preaching after this course.

This course must be taken in person.

A Lay Servant is

  • an active, supportive (professing) member of a United Methodist church;
  • eager to serve the church, community, and world;
  • well-informed on scripture and on the doctrine, heritage, organization, and life of The United Methodist Church;
  • committed to witnessing through church and community leadership, caregiving ministries, and spoken communication;
