Rev. Rick McKinley, Director of Congregational Development

Preaching to Cameras and Congregations: How to best share the good news in-person and online.
Researchers confirm most communication happens non-verbally: The way you speak, but in particular, your body language (gestures, eye contact, head position) will either enhance or detract from the congregation's ability to receive your communication. What should we avoid, and what should we embrace as public speakers?

Drawing on his 30 years of on-camera work as a meteorologist on
the NBC-TV affiliates in Maine, Pastor Steve Smith of First UMC Bangor, ME, will share helpful information related to speaking and preaching in front of a camera (streaming) and to in-person congregations.

Steve will also share insights from his doctoral thesis: "Preaching Without Words: The Role of Nonverbal Communication in Pastoral Ministry."
