MANDATORY CW District Anti Racism (CORR) Training

This training will take place at First UMC Westborough, MA on February 11, 2023, from 9:00 AM -3:00 PM and is mandatory for all district clergy and certified lay ministers. It is strongly encouraged for laity in a church leadership position to attend. 0.5 CEU will be awarded.

Participants are asked to watch these two videos in advance of the training session:


Snacks, drinks, and lunch will be provided. If you will need childcare and/or have any dietary restrictions please specify when you register.

 Commonwealth West District Day with Bishop Peggy Johnson

This is an invitation for all Commonwealth West District pastors and leaders to join us for an afternoon with Bishop Peggy Johnson on Saturday, February 25, 2023, from 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM at East Longmeadow UMC.  This is an in-person only event. All church members are welcome to attend. Snacks and drinks will be provided. Bishop Johnson will share in dialogue, information-sharing, and worship.

Pre-Lenten Gathering with Bishop Peggy Johnson

Bishop Peggy Johnson is offering a virtual pre-Lenten Gathering on February 21 at 7 pm via zoom. Please join us on Shrove Tuesday for a way to get to know our Bishop better and to prepare for Lent. More information and Zoom link is coming soon.

Stewardship Preaching Institute announces 2023 webinars

In 2023, the Foundation’s Stewardship Preaching Institute will once again offer education, excellence, exegesis, and encounters in the ministry area of stewardship. We invite you to share this information with your pastor, worship team, leadership, and the person sitting in the pew next to you!
These one-hour webinars are free. Each presenter will:

  • EXPLORE a specific message
  • SHARE the tools & techniques used in preparation
  • PREACH the chosen message
  • ENGAGE in Q&A with attendees

Known for their excellence in preaching, the following presenters will lead the webinars:

  • Jan. 18 — Pittsburgh Area Resident Bishop Cynthia Moore-Koikoi
  • Feb. 15 — Hawaii District Superintendent, Rev. Moonyoung Lee, of the California-Pacific Conference
  • March 15 — Rev. Magrey deVega, author and Senior Pastor of Hyde Park UMC in Tampa, FL
  • April 19 — Rev. Dr. Joe Daniels, social entrepreneur, author, consultant, professor and Lead Pastor of Emory Fellowship, Washington, DC

 IRS Standard Mileage Rates for 2023

Beginning on January 1, 2023, the standard mileage rates for the use of a car (also vans, pickups or panel trucks) will be:

  • 65.5 cents per mile driven for business use, up 3 cents from the midyear increase setting the rate for the second half of 2022.
  • 22 cents per mile driven for medical or moving purposes for qualified active-duty members of the Armed Forces, consistent with the increased midyear rate set for the second half of 2022.
  • 14 cents per mile driven in service of charitable organizations; the rate is set by statute and remains unchanged from 2022.

Parsonage Walkthroughs/Inspections: Parsonage walkthroughs that have not yet been completed will need to be done by the local church pastor, the SPRC’s chair, and trustee’s chair. This document needs to be filled out during the walkthrough and sent to DS Megan prior to the 2023 church conference.
