The 2017 Annual Conference adopted the following resolution on using gluten-free, dairy-free bread for Communion.
The text of the resolution reads:
As a Church which desires unity and inclusiveness, and in order that all may indeed receive of the one loaf and one cup, we move that for all communion services at the New England Conference, with encouragement also for the same at the District level, only gluten-free, dairy-free breads be used.
When two kinds of bread are offered, those persons who require gluten-free or dairy-free are excluded from full participation, and we run the risk of cross-contamination which can be life-threatening to some of our highly sensitive and allergic brothers and sisters.
RS-17-222 – GLUTEN- AND DAIRY-FREE COMMUNION BREAD
