Rolling Ridge seeks head chef; guest services host

Rolling Ridge Retreat and Conference Center is seeking to fill multiple staff positions.

The center, in North Andover, MA, is a year-round historic facility that welcomes groups and individuals for day meetings and overnight retreats. The 38-acre estate has been described as "a true oasis of quiet beauty and gracious hospitality, changing the world one retreat at a time."

Rolling Ridge seeks self-sufficient, creative and reliable professionals to join the team at New England's Premier Christian Retreat and Conference Center.

The Head Chef serves as the lead cook AND kitchen manager, and directs the food service operation of the retreat center including fresh & healthy menu creation, personnel management, maintaining kitchen & equipment, ordering food & supplies, food preparation, and working within a budget.
Essential Job Functions:

  • Manage daily operations of the retreat center food and dining services
  • Oversee the planning & preparation of appealing, healthy, nutritionally balanced meals and snacks made from scratch,
  • Create menus based on special dietary needs of the group and individual guests
  • Ensure the service of timely meals through directing the work of other employees
  • Ensure safe & efficient preparation and serving of meals
  • Attend weekly BEO meetings
  • Train Kitchen Assistants and Cooks in proper kitchen procedures
  • Manage kitchen personnel, oversee the inventory and ordering of food, equipment, and supplies, and arrange for the routine maintenance, sanitation and upkeep of the kitchen, its equipment, and facilities.
  • Manage all administrative and human resource functions for kitchen employees
  • Monitor employee performance and training
  • Interview and hire cooks and all kitchen staff
  • Plan, coordinate, schedule, and supervise the work of other food service staff
  • Order food and kitchen supplies consistent with menus and guest counts
  • Maintain inventory of food and kitchen supplies
  • Maintain high standards of cleanliness, sanitation, and safety
  • Clean and maintain all food-service areas, including kitchen, dining hall, storage, and kitchen recycling
  • Inspect equipment and ensure equipment is repaired as necessary
  • Promote practices that seek to reduce food waste and reuse leftovers
  • Maintain "green" practices in composting and recycling
  • Work as the lead cook in the kitchen
  • Prepare and cook food as the menu indicates frying, boiling, broiling, steaming or roasting
  • Spot problems and resolve them quickly and efficiently
  • Delegate many kitchen tasks simultaneously
  • Work with and supervise kitchen assistants
  • Have meals ready for scheduled times
  • Solve guests’ concerns and other problems as they arise with grace (ie. guest with previously unknown dietary restrictions)
  • Ability to thrive in a United Methodist organization and a setting that embraces diverse faith beliefs
  • Ability to budget, control, analyze, and project costs and savings
  • Ability to safely and properly use kitchen equipment
  • Experience in large food service setting preferred
  • Experience in scheduling and supervision of kitchen staff
  • Ability to maintain a level head and work as a team player
  • Ability to maintain food cost percentages as guided by budget and Executive Director
  • Knowledge of current health and safety laws and practices
  • Expertise in vegan, gluten free, dairy free, vegetarian, and other alternative dietary concerns
  • Food Service training, ServSafe management, CPR, and allergen awareness certificates
  • Ability to provide first aid and to assist staff in an emergency
  • Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing in English
  • Ability to move 50 pounds
Guest Service Host/ Housekeeper/ Dishwasher flex position for part time employment. We are seeking industry professionals with an enthusiasm to exceed guest expectations. The right candidate must possess clear communication skills and own transportation. This part time job has evening and weekend hours to accommodate guest's schedules. Hours are flexible but would require most Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. We are looking for someone who is a "jack of all trades" who is:
  • Able to greet and welcome guests in a pleasant manner and comfortable in speaking to groups
  • Attentive to the needs of groups, being visible but not intrusive
  • Hard working and observant, maintaining the beverage station and the common rooms, being a liason between guests and the kitchen during meal times, helping out where needed
  • A friendly personality in meeting guests' needs
  • Attentive to cleanliness in the common areas and meeting rooms
  • Ability to work as part of a hospitality team
  • Able to break down and set up meeting spaces, and able to lift 25 pounds
  • Service and housekeeping skills, including vacuuming, emptying trash, making beds, cleaning bathrooms
  • Thorough in following a check list for set up or closing details.
