The Director of Faith Formation and Family Ministries of Wilbraham United Church works with the congregation to develop a dynamic program engaging and encouraging children, youth and families. This individual is responsible for the development and promotion of the educational and outreach programs of the church. This is a part-time, 20 hour per week position.
Qualifications: The Director of Faith Formation and Family Ministries displays quality leadership skills, has a UCC or UMC Christian educator’s certificate or Bachelor’s degree and demonstrates a commitment to Christian principles and teachings. The Director must be able to listen effectively and communicate clearly to groups of different ages, talents and viewpoints. They should demonstrate administrative and organizational skills and have abilities to use technology. This individual must pass a CORI background check.
Specific Responsibilities: Administrative Planning Work with clergy, staff, and commissions to initiate, develop, and carry out the missions of the church Meet regularly at staff meetings with the Pastor, and attend monthly Discipleship Commission meetings Set goals with the Discipleship Commission and church leaders to determine priorities, establish programs, and coordinate a calendar of events. Develop and administer the annual budget for education and outreach programs as authorized by the clergy and Church Council. Correspond with church members via bulletins and newsletters regarding events related to Faith Formation and Family Ministries Program Implementation and Oversight Provide leadership to the educational ministry of the church, including: Identify gifts of lay leaders and promote involvement in church school and youth activities Comply with established Safe Church policies and procedures as well as all applicable federal and state laws Oversee Children’s Ministry, including: Curriculum Programs Prayer Music Schedule coverage and attendance for Church School on Sunday mornings. Oversee childcare providers for nursery on Sunday mornings Deliver Moments for Children of All Ages during worship when scheduled Oversee the youth program, including: Coordinate social and mission opportunities for youth Work directly with Middle and High School Youth Fellowships Foster spiritual growth and service. Oversee the planning and direct the summer Vacation Bible Camp (VBC) Program Organize Family Nights Take active leadership in confirmation classes. Assist with the church’s annual multi-generational Christmas Pageant Lead and organize adult education programs Continuing Education Keep current of latest research, methods and materials related to religious education and youth ministry Attend conferences and conventions of professional organizations that include educational sessions and activities
