Choir/Music Director Position Description – Hampton United Methodist Church Position Summary Hampton United Methodist Church (HUMC), located in Hampton, NH, is seeking a part-time Choir/Music Director to oversee our music program and direct volunteer choir members performing music for church services and programs. Working collaboratively with our Pastor and Organist, the Director will ensure that music is an integral part of the worship experience. The Director will understand and share HUMC’s commitment to sharing the love of Christ and will work to communicate that vision through music. The Director will also be responsible for day-to-day administrative aspects of our music program. Essential Functions • As an integral member of the worship team, work in cooperation with the Pastor to plan and oversee music for every Sunday worship service at HUMC • Plan and lead rehearsals and performances of the vocal music and bell choirs • Provide direction to music ministry personnel, including Organist and Special Music Coordinator • Administer the Church’s contract with One License, the live-streamed music subscription service, and ensure compliance with all requirements • Oversee music-related expenditures within set budget allocation • Encouraged to attend workshops for Choir Directors for current ideas and inspiration Experience and Qualifications The preferred candidate will have the skills and experience necessary to carry out the essential functions of the position and will continue to hone their craft to bring out the best in the choir • Knowledge of sacred choral music and the ability to select anthems for worship suitable to the ability of the choir • At least 2 years of experience as church music and choral director • A well-rounded musician with conducting skills and an understanding of music, voices, and hymnology • Proficient piano skills required • Ability to play an organ is highly desirable • HUMC is devoted to showing Christ’s love to all.
