Type of position: Part-Time Salaried (commensurate with experience). Spiritual Gifts, Skillset, Talents and Desired Abilities: A person with experience in hand bells and conducting, Bachelor of Music preferred. A person with a strong Christian faith and a willingness to work within and honor the traditions of The United Methodist Church. Familiarity with both Traditional and Contemporary Christian Church Music. Dedication to Christian values and the role of music in Worship. The ability and willingness to work enthusiastically and collaboratively with others in a mostly volunteer environment. Good organization and leadership skills. Passion For: Working within a Christian faith based environment; the role of music in Christian worship; continuing music education and experiences Length of Commitment: One year minimum desired.
ANTICIPATED TIME COMMITMENTS * Expectation of 1.5-3 hours weekly with occasional high periods (important holy days such as Christmas Eve, Ash Wednesday, Easter, etc.) Not expected to work any state or federal holidays. No paid sick leave or vacation days. For days needed for sick leave or vacation, employee should provide notice in writing to the Pastor and SPRC chairperson as soon as possible or at least one week in advance. *
RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES The Bell Choir Director leads the Bell Choir in a variety of styles of music for Sunday services once a month October through May with rehearsals beginning in September after Labor Day. The Bell Choir plays a half hour prelude for the Christmas Eve Service. There is opportunity for the Bell Choir and Voice Choir to coordinate music for both groups for Special occasions. The Bell Choir Director is a part of the church's Music Team (consisting of the Organist, Bell Choir Director, Voice Choir Director and Pastor), which meets monthly with the Worship Committee to coordinate worship related issues. The Bell Choir Director also participates in Worship Committee Retreats twice a year for long-range planning. The Bell Choir Director conducts a once a week rehearsal on Thursday evenings from 5:30-6:50 PM. If the Bell Choir Director cannot be present at a rehearsal or scheduled event, he/she is responsible for making arrangements for a substitute director. Services are currently at 10:00AM all year. The bell budget is supported through fund raisers by the bell choir. Whenever possible, the Bell Choir Director is expected to participate in these fund raisers. The Bell Choir Director assesses equipment and supply needs and budgets accordingly. Bell polishing is usually scheduled in May on the Thursday evening after the final time the bells play in worship for the season. Performs other related duties as assigned by the Music Team. The Children’s Chime Choir (CCC) Director directs children in grades 1 – 5, who play during the Church service when ready, October through Children’s Sunday in June. The CCC is part of the Children’s Ministry Program and the Director of Children’s Ministry is present for the rehearsal. (For the safety of our children, two adults are present for children’s activities.) The CCC Director teaches and directs the children in Chime Choir with rehearsals beginning in September, usually the second week after Labor Day. They play during the beginning of the 10 AM Sunday Church service when ready and participation is sufficient to perform. They also play for the 6 PM Children’s Christmas Pageant in December and for Children’s Sunday in the beginning of June. The CCC Director conducts a once a week rehearsal on Thursdays from 4:30-5:00. The CCC Director will uphold the HHUMC Safe Sanctuaries Policy.
