Old South is seeking a vibrant and faith-based person whose beliefs align with our vision and mission as a reconciling congregation to join our staff as the Director of Children and Youth Ministries. The primary responsibility of the role is to cultivate faith formation in children, youth and families. The ideal candidate will have a strong faith and ability to communicate that faith in a way that is relatable to children of all ages. This person will connect well with children and youth, both interpersonally and through social media. This person has strong relationship building skills and proven organizational skills to manage the responsibilities of the role. Theological training not required. Total: 12-15 hours/week with a spike during Vacation Bible School (summer). Detailed responsibilities include: Sunday School – Coordinate teachers, order and adapt curriculum. Track attendance, recruit new teachers as needed, train and encourage teachers. Assist in the classroom. Acolytes – Coordinate with parents and make a quarterly schedule. Train acolytes once a year. Maintain equipment as needed. Quarterly outings to reward acolytes. Vacation Bible School – Spearhead planning and execution for one week-long program in the summer. Order and edit curriculum, publicize, set up and track online registration and payments, recruit, train, and coordinate volunteers, oversee set-up/clean-up, communicate with parents, leadership during camp, Sunday celebration, follow-up. Meetings – Staff meetings and other committee meetings as needed. Administrative Tasks – Answering emails, phone calls, office visitors, and carrying out one-time tasks that arise from meetings and emails, not already accounted for in other areas. Confirmation – Support the Pastor in teaching confirmation every other year. This includes teaching and leading, coordinating volunteer leaders and supporting mentors. Youth Activities – Build relationships and generate excitement to attend events. Organize youth outings and service projects. Occasional Events – Bible Sunday, Living Nativity, Children’s Ministry Sunday, Graduation Sunday. The following responsibilities would be a plus but not a requirement: Performing Arts – Coordinate and schedule musicals, choirs, handbells, and other performing arts opportunities. Edit scripts and music. Direct rehearsals and performances on a seasonal basis. Children’s Message – Plan and lead children’s message weekly. Adult Small Groups – Along with senior pastor: Plan, prepare and lead seasonal small group opportunities, train small group leaders.
