May 2023

The Conference Council on Finance and Administration (CCFA) has determined that during the years 2012 to 2022, churches that did not submit statistical data for one or more years were assessed a 15% increase in Mission Shares for each year that a report was missing.  The error was regrettable, and we want to process appropriate corrections as soon as possible.

We apologize and appreciate your patience and grace as we work together on a remedy. In the interest of transparency, we are sharing this information will all of our churches, whether impacted or not.

After meticulous review of statistical data for this time period, we are able to report that only a small number of churches were, in fact, affected by this additional assessment to mission shares. (We are pleased to note that fewer than 15% of our churches had missing statistical reports over this 10-year period).

The aggregate figures for 2012-2022 for your church were calculated and the results will appear in your church’s record, which is accessible through the Portal/Church Dashboard (link at right).

Once you are logged into the portal, results specific to your church can be found under “Correction of Calculation of Mission Shares for Chruches with Missing Statistical Reports Information”; here’s how to read the results:

  • Churches with a credit (amount in parentheses), overpaid and are due a refund for that amount.
  • Churches with a balance in the last column, did not overpay and no action is needed.
  • Churches with “No miscalculation to report,” submitted statistical reports for each year 2012-2022 and were not impacted at all.

The process used to determine which churches were impacted was very thorough and overseen by CCFA and our Interim Conference Treasurer Clare Chapman. Conference Statistician Joy Mueller and myself worked closely to review the data and calculations.

Some of the steps in this process:

  • A list was generated of churches that did not submit a statistical report for one or more years between 2012-2022.
  • The total Mission Shares billed for that 10-year period was calculated.
  • The total Mission Shares paid for that 10-year period was calculated.
  • The 15% increase in Mission Shares was calculated and compared to the billing vs. payments data for the 10-year period.
