Basic Courses Offered: (Pre-requisite for advanced courses)

  • Basic Lay Speaking Course. ($20) The Basic Lay Speaking course focuses on the many ways lay speakers are called to be in ministry through such things as preaching, leading, teaching, serving, proclaiming the Gospel, disciple-making, storytelling, and growing through spiritual formation. The book introduces the purposes of lay speaking ministries as caring, leading, and communicating. 

Advanced Courses Offered:

  • Evangelism. ($30)   This course helps lay speakers learn how to share their faith by telling about their faith and putting it into action.
  • United Methodist Heritage. ($30)   Participants gain a basic understanding of the distinctive traditions and emphases of The United Methodist Church and our Wesleyan heritage.
  • Teaching Adults. ($30)   This course addresses the teaching of adults and is designed to help church leaders gain a basic understanding of the ways in which adults learn and grow, and discuss models of leading adults in Bible Study, adult Sunday School classes and other adult education and spiritual growth opportunities.
  • Storytelling. ($30)  Lay speakers will learn what constitutes a good story, discover their storytelling styles, learn the techniques of effective storytelling, and practice creating stories from their own experiences.

    NOTE: Basic-Spanish, Basic-Youth, and Evangelism-Spanish courses have been cancelled for this session because of lack of enrollment.
