Welcome Vermont!
Vermont Churches to Join the New England Conference
In July of 2008, delegates at the Northeastern Jurisdictional Conference of The United Methodist Church voted to create a new Annual Conference, combining the New York portions of the North Central New York, Western New York, Troy and Wyoming annual conferences into one conference in July 2010. As part of this boundaries reconfiguration, Vermont churches from the Troy Conference would join the New England Conference, and the Pennsylvania portion of the Wyoming Conference will unite with the Central Pennsylvania Conference.
And so it began.
Actually, discussions and preliminary planning for the Vermont-New England transition began almost two years prior, with listening sessions, sharing of ideas, and dreaming of the possibilities. In June 2008, just before the Jurisdictional Conference, New England voted nearly unanimously to welcome Vermont churches if the action was approved at Jurisdictional Conference.
Since that time, transition teams have been created and are continuing to meet and plan and dream in a variety of areas - from the administration of the union to the opportunities for ministry we have together as God shapes us into the "new and improved" New England Annual Conference. We have created this web page to provide ongoing information about the progress of the transition, to welcome input, and to provide a place where you can ask questions. Please check back frequently to see the new things that we are doing in planning - and in action - with our brothers and sisters in Vermont!

This section will provide information on local churches and church members and clergy, and even provide an opportunity for churches to establish "sister church" relationships to begin developing deeper relationships and even sharing in mutual ministry!
What you get when you get Vermont - a light-hearted but informative look at perceptions and realities of getting acquainted with Vermont, offered by Troy Conference member and "Vermonter" Rene Wilbur, with input from Brigid Farrell.
