Application packets:
Applicants for Provisional membership in the Order of Deacon or Elder must:
- (see para.324, 2008 Book of Discipline for additional information)
- Be a certified candidate for at least 1 year, and no more than 12 years (see information on becoming a certified candidate, Candidacy Certification Process, above)
- Have completed a bachelor's degree from a college or university recognized by the University Senate
- Have completed an M.Div. (Elder or Deacon) or master's (Deacon) degree from a seminary listed by the University Senate. Seminaries approved by University Senate
- Be able to complete the following graduate theological courses (listed in para.324.4a) before FULL membership: Old Testament, New Testament, theology, church history, mission of the church in the world, evangelism, worship/liturgy, United Methodist History, Doctrine, and Polity and at least 1 unit of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE - Elder only). Accredited CPE Centers in the Northeast

Applicants for Full membership in the Order of Deacon (para.330) or Elder (para.335) must:
- Have completed all the graduate theological courses listed in para.324.4a - Old Testament, New Testament, theology, church history, mission of the church in the world, evangelism, worship/liturgy, and United Methodist History, Doctrine, and Polity
- Have completed at least 1 unit of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE - Elder only) Accredited CPE Centers in the Northeast
- Have been a provisional member for at least 3 years
- Have served full-time (or equivalent) under episcopal appointment for at least 3 full annual conference years

Applicants for Associate membership (para.322) must:
- Have reached age 40
- Have served 4 years as full-time local pastors
- Have completed licensing studies and the 5-year Course of Study
- Have completed a minimum of 60 hours toward a B.A. or equivalent
