The New England Conference of The United Methodist Church presents:

F e b r u a r y 1 9 , 2 0 0 9
to benefit the NothingButNets Campaign
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
On F e b r u a r y 1 9 , 2 0 0 9, the Harlem Globetrotters will play at the MassMutual Center in Springfield, MA, with a portion of ticket sales through United Methodist Churches in New England going to benefit the NothingButNets campaign. Last year, we held a similar fundraiser and sold more than 1300 tickets to the game, raising enough for over 700 bed nets! Local churches, youth groups, mission committees and other United Methodists groups are encouraged to purchase tickets and/or sell them as a fundraiser -- all the while helping to purchase bed nets to help stamp out malaria in Africa.
In addition, we welcome a new partner this year - for each ticket sold, the Springfield Falcons hockey team will include a ticket for their March 21st game at 7:00 PM.
CHURCHES, REMEMBER...you can donate tickets to underprivileged kids in the Springfield area, giving them a once-in-a-lifetime experience! Bishop Weaver also made a point to remind churches that this is an amazing outreach opportunity. "Churches can donate tickets, and that's a tremendous ministry in itself, particularly for our churches that are located in areas too far to travel to the game," he said. "But churches that are closer to the Springfield area have a real opportunity to buy extra tickets and then invite youth or other members of the larger community to go with them to the event. This event can be a real relationship building experience between local churches and organizations like the Boys and Girls clubs in their communities."

About NothingButNets
More than 3,000 children die each day in Africa from malaria. NothingButNets is a global campaign aimed at saving lives by preventing malaria, and was formed by a partnership of The United Methodist Church, NBA Cares, The United Nations Foundation, and Sports Illustrated. Each $10 donation goes directly toward the purchase, distribution, and education about the proper use of an insecticide-treated bed net. Send a net. Save a life.
