Nicaragua Covenant

Vision

We envision a Nicaragua where all life is valued equally and the basic rights of human dignity, health and education are available to all, as we work toward the fullness of life that is shalom.

Mission Statement

The Covenant between the New England Conference of the United Methodist Church and our Covenant and ministry partners in Nicaragua was formed to accompany one another in solidarity as a response to the unjust and inequitable differences between North and South, rich and poor.  In response to the healing ministry of our Lord Jesus Christ, we develop and support programs that enhance the lives of the poorest of the poor in Nicaragua.

Background

In 1986, the Nicaragua Covenant was established between the New England Conference of the United Methodist Church of New England and La Asociacion de Iglesias de Cristo de Nicaragua {AICN}, an indigenous Protestant denomination.  The success and growth of the original ideas developed into a covenant that provides program support to the families in churches that comprise the AICN.  Although we have new Vision and Mission Statements, the original vision forged by the founders of the Nicaragua Covenant remain the same.

Today, the Nicaragua Planning Committee has expanded the connections and missions of the New England Conference in Nicaragua.

You Can Help

For more than 20 years, the Nicaragua Covenant has served the Nicaraguan people with critical health and education programs. Your generous support is critical.  Without it, the covenant will not be able to offer these programs and many of the children who are served will go without nutrition, medical and dental care, not to mention the spiritual nurturing and education that is an integral part of the Nicaragua Covenant.

Please take a moment to reflect on the past, the present, and the future. As you have been intentional about the connectional work of the conference by fulfilling your mission shares,
we ask that you go one step further with a pledge of $500 to support the programs of the Nicaragua Covenant. Your gift will not only make a difference today, but will also be the impetus for the Nicaragua Covenant of tomorrow.

Sincerely yours,

Nicaragua Planning Committee:
Sandy Melius, Rev. Stephen Melius, Ann Kathi Peterson, Byron Champlin, Kevin McNally, Joanne McNally, Tracy Duhamel, Gwen McGrath, Sara Parker, Richard Rinker, Rev. William Taylor.

Ways to Get Involved
HOW TO CONTRIBUTE FINANCIALLY to the NICARAGUA COVENANT
Contributions should be submitted to the New England Conference on the Churches Mission Share form under the section that says, "Special Days and Advance Special Gifts". In this area enter: "0803 Nic Cov + the amount".  If it is designated for a specific purpose it should say, 0803 Nic Cov [the purpose] + the amount."

The Nicaragua Planning Committee continues to send material aid to Nicaragua. We are partnering with Cross International to provide food for feeding programs, educational and dental supplies, as well as new clothing and crocs. Also, we will continue to transport educational, dental and sewing supplies to Nicaragua with delegations. No clothing, please.

All of these shipments and transports cost money. With the changes in airline regulations comes charges for extra luggage ($25) or luggage that is overweight. In partnering with Cross Internation, we still contribute toward the cost of the container. Your continued support to 0803-Nicaragua Covenant programs in order to provide these goods is greatly appreciated.
