St Paul's 'U2charist' Service Supports Abundant Health Initiative

May 24, 2017

Saint Paul’s UMC in Saint Albans, VT, raised $652.40 for Abundant Health (Global Health Advance #3021770). The Abundant Health offering was received during the “U2charist” service on Feb. 5, 2017.

The Saint Paul's Praise Band was joined by the Smokey Newfield Project and covered U2 songs during the Communion service.

Abundant Health aligns nicely with U2's emphasis on the Millennium Goals, which include: reducing child mortality, improving maternal health, combating HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases.

Abundant Health: Our Promise to Children” makes five promises to children: to ensure safe births, promote breastfeeding and nutrition, prevent childhood killer diseases, encourage treatment-seeking behaviors and provide treatment and lifesaving commodities.

The Global Ministries initiative has a goal of reaching 1 million children with lifesaving interventions by 2020, and is focused on communities, primarily in Africa, with high child mortality rates from preventable causes. The campaign’s name and theme, Abundant Health, is taken from the Gospel of John 10:10: “I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly.”
