A “Free Yoga for Veterans” class led by Nancy Garnhart, a member of Eliot UMC in Maine, was featured in a Jan. 1, 2017 story on fosters.com. The story includes comments from participant and church member John Dow. Click the link to read the story: http://www.fosters.com/news/20170101/yoga-for-veterans-helps-fight-ptsd
Garnhart also started a Meditation Group at Eliot UMC in July 2016.
The Rev. Sue Frost writes this about the Meditation Group:
More than 25 people have participated, with an average of 11 people coming every week. About a third of the participants had never been in our church before: They heard about the group by word-of-mouth or from reading about it on our exterior church sign.
When I emailed Nancy recently, asking her for some of the Meditation Group's stats, she wrote, "Thank you for helping to get it started. It has made a HUGE difference in people's lives. It's amazing."
And several of the participants have told me the same thing, Rev. Frost writes. I had encouraged them to attend, back in July, hoping that learning how to meditate would help to ease their burdens. But I've been absolutely blown away by how the group has changed lives – and so many!
The Psalmist's advice, "Be still, and know that I am God" (Psalm 46:10) is wise, indeed. Praise God!
