Bishop presents books to Pope Francis

May 14, 2015

On May 13, 2015, Bishop Sudarshana Devadhar, his wife, Prema, and his nephew Dr. Suranjan Maben were among those who had an audience with Pope Francis in St. Peter's Square at the Vatican.
Bishop Devadhar said of Pope Francis: “I was deeply impressed by his humbleness and his servanthood. He took time to greet the thousands of spectators before coming to the altar.”

The bishop presented Pope Francis with a copy of the United Methodist Book of Worship, which includes liturgy, prayer, services and service music for the denomination, and with a copy of “Celebrating God's Love: Living Into Christian Unity and Interreligious Relationships,” a collection of essays, including one by Bishop Devadhar, on United Methodism’s commitment to ecumenism and interfaith relationships.

The book was signed with an inscription by Bishop Warner H. Brown Jr., president of the Council of Bishops, and signed by Bishop Cynthia Fierro Harvey, secretary of the Council of Bishops; Bishop Mary Ann Swenson, ecumenical officer of the Council of Bishops, and Dr. Donald E. Messer, the book’s editor.
