Central MA District Announces Fall 2012 Lay Speaking Courses
 
Each course will meet on three consecutive Saturdays - September 15, 22 and 29 at 1:00 to 6:00 PM.

Description of Courses
The Lay Speaking Ministries Basic Course focuses on the many ways lay speakers are called to be in ministry. Completion of the Basic Course is required for Lay Speaker certification.
Youth Basic Course- Lay Speaking Ministries
The Lay Speaking Ministries Youth Basic Course encourages and provides training for youths to claim the ministries to which God is calling them.
Go Preach
This course is designed for lay leaders, pastors, student pastors who have not completed formal preaching training, pastors seeking a basic refresher course, and others who are called upon to preach in a pastor’s absence.
Lay Speakers are Accountable Disciples - Advanced Course
This course focuses on the concept of the household of God, the importance of Scripture as divine revelation, Wesleyan understandings of grace and the importance of the office of class leader in the development of the Methodist movement.
Living Our Beliefs: The United Methodist Way - Advanced Course
In this course participants will learn about the formation of Methodist denominations as an important part of the history of The United Methodist Church and explore the Wesleyan understanding of the means grace and how practicing the spiritual disciplines leads to holiness of heart and life.
 
Important Reminder A refresher course is required every three years to remain a Local Church Lay Speaker.  To become a Certified Lay Speaker and serve outside your local congregation, you must take one advanced course and continue by taking at least one advanced course every three years.  All Local Church and Certified Lay Speakers must submit an annual report of activities to their respective charge conference
