Haiti Update

Rev. Gesner Paul, President of the Methodist Church of Haiti, has sent a letter expressing thanksgiving from the Church in Haiti for the response UMCOR is leading after the devastation of the earthquake. You are invited to share this letter with your local churches. The letter is helpful in clarifying both the need for volunteers in the future and the wisdom of responding at the most appropriate time. Please continue your prayerful support and encouragement for the people of Haiti as the United Methodist Church continues planning for the most effective response. Click Here for the letter.

Wesley United Methodist Church invites you for the Prayer Service for Haiti on February 6th at 6 pm to be held at 100 Cummins Hwy, Roslindale, MA 02131. Please contact Pastor Michelle Pierre (857-492-7072) for more information.

Submission Deadline Nears For New Worship And Song Collection

Although work on a new UM hymnal was suspended in May 2009, the UM Publishing House and the General Board of Discipleship are developing a shorter, different type of resource to be published in Feb. 2011. The forthcoming collection, said Gary Alan Smith, general editor, will offer the best of the best of the newest worship resources to The UMC and beyond. . . . traditional hymns, praise and worship songs and choruses, Taiz chants, worship music from various racial-ethnic and global communities, and even some hymns from older generations that warrant a revival. Also included in its own volume will be non-musical worship resources (prayers, litanies and other liturgical acts of worship) intended for pastors and worship leaders as they plan worship. February 28 is the deadline for submissions. Persons desiring to submit original hymns, songs, service music and worship resources for publication consideration in the new collections may send submissions to Smith at gsmith@umpublishing.org
