Chaplain at Sherrill House

Sherrill House is a 196-bed not-for-profit skilled nursing and rehabilitation center located in Jamaica Plain is seeking a part-time (20 hour/week) chaplain to offer pastoral care and spiritual accompaniment to residents from many faith traditions. Responsibilities will include providing one-on-one pastoral care, leading weekly worship services and providing oversight for pastoral volunteers and church groups. Responsibilities: • Visit regularly with residents, offering pastoral care/counseling • Visit new residents and provide assessment of residents’ spiritual needs • Offer end-of-life support to residents and families as required • Respond to referrals from staff and share the duties of on-call services as needed • Train, support and direct the efforts of pastoral volunteers and church groups • Collaborate with Congregational Outreach Coordinator to engage community clergy and strengthen congregational relationships • Maintain a regular schedule of worship services • Plan and implement weekly pastoral groups for residents Qualifications: • Ordained clergy with sacramental authority to celebrate Holy Communion • Demonstrated ability to minister to persons from a broad range of religious backgrounds • Masters in Divinity from a seminary accredited by the AATS • 2-5 years pastoral experience in a parish and/or healthcare setting • Knowledge of gerontological issues and a demonstrated willingness and desire to work with older adults • Minimum of two units of CPE or training in a related field. One of the units must be in a healthcare setting. • Knowledge of, and interest in, the ethical issues pertaining to healthcare in general and gerontology in particular • Ability to work as member of an interdisciplinary healthcare team
